Can you tell us a little about The Potted Pansy and what inspires your floral designs? How would you describe your signature floral style, and what makes it unique?
At The Potted Pansy, we embrace the way the outer petals of a rose are worn and weathered. Imperfect and bruised by all standards, and yet, it is those petals that are protecting the inner perfect. It’s symbolic and beautiful—and we love them that way.
We’re inspired by the raw wildness of nature: the way a tiny plant pushes through the earth to survive, and how weeds, twigs, and unexpected bits of plants add life and depth to each arrangement. It’s not just blooms that create beauty, but the imperfect pieces in between. That symbolism resonates deeply with life—and with your wedding day.
Weddings are the culminating event of your love, the celebration of your being. We design florals that reflect your personalities, weaving lush blooms with textural elements and a hint of earth to create an atmosphere full of meaning.

3. What are your favorite flowers to use in wedding arrangements, and are there any underrated florals couples should consider?
There are just too many incredible flowers to choose just one—or even a few! One of the beautiful things about naturally growing flowers is how they shift and change with the seasons. That’s part of the magic.
I always encourage clients to stay open during the design process. Different flowers thrive at different times of the year. When we lean into what’s best in-season, we get healthier, stronger, and more beautiful blooms. Trust your florist to source exceptional flowers—often underrated varieties shine brightest in the right context.
4. How do you help couples choose flowers that complement their wedding style and venue?
We love really getting to know our couples—through in-person or video consultations—observing the way they interact, listening to their stories, and learning about any sentimental elements they want to include. That process helps us fine-tune each design to be truly unique.
Couples don’t need to know anything about flowers—that’s our job! We’ll create something that enhances the wedding’s style and venue, while weaving in anything meaningful they’ve shared.
5. What wedding floral trends are you loving right now?
- Statement tablescapes, especially at the sweetheart or head table
- Tons of texture
- Monochromatic color themes
- Full, flowing florals that connect table to table with cohesion and creativity
- Non-traditional table setups that allow for artistic floral expressions
6. What advice do you have for couples who want stunning florals on a budget?
Focus on what matters most! Impact is everything. Instead of spreading florals thinly across every space, choose pieces that create the most emotional response. Ask: What will make your guests gasp? What do you care about most? Do that.
7. Where should couples focus their floral budget for the biggest impact?
Focus on 1–3 areas that truly matter to you—whether it’s the ceremony backdrop, the sweetheart table, a grand staircase, or the dance floor. Investing in fewer, high-impact installations makes a bigger impression than scattering florals everywhere, including on cocktail tables or even bridesmaids’ bouquets.
8. What are some creative ways to repurpose ceremony florals for the reception?
- Sweetheart table: Use aisle arrangements or a ceremony arch at the base of your table for extra wow-factor.
- Fireplace: Have a fireplace at your venue? Deck it out using ceremony florals.
- Reception entrance: Create a stunning first impression by repurposing florals during cocktail hour for the entryway.
- Guest tables: Place aisle pieces at the ends of dinner tables. Floral doesn’t have to be on the table—try grounding them at table ends and letting them grow upward.
9. How can couples best communicate their vision to a florist while staying open to creative ideas?
Imagery! While we won’t copy an exact photo, reviewing inspiration images together helps uncover repeated patterns and preferences. We ask questions, find consistencies, and build on your ideas to create something unique to you.
Pinterest boards are a great place to start—even if you can’t fully articulate why you love certain images. That’s where our expertise comes in: we help you discover what you’re drawn to and then translate that into a cohesive, meaningful design.
Be open to seasonal flowers and trust your floral designer. The more we know about your overall wedding—the vibe, your personalities, even your story—the more magic we can create.
10. What’s one piece of advice you’d give every couple when choosing their wedding flowers?
Don’t stress! You’ve probably never done this before—and that’s okay. There are unknowns, and we’re here to help guide you.
